John 20:11-18

In John’s gospel for today we read of the account of Mary Magdalene standing outside the empty tomb of Jesus and she’s weeping. The angels guarding the tomb question why she’s crying. She replies: They have taken my Lord, and I don’t know where to find him. She sees someone and thinks it’s the gardener and she questions: Sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you laid him. The man said to her: “Mary!” She replies: “Rabboni,” which means Teacher. Following this Mary went to the disciples and said: I have seen the Lord.

You and I will not be privileged today to meet Jesus in person. Rather, we will encounter people who will be Jesus in disguise. How will you or I respond to these ordinary people? Will we be able to recognize the presence of the Risen Jesus? During this wonderful Easter Season let us allow ourselves to be reminded of the presence of Jesus not only in the people we encounter but in all of nature surrounding us.
