The words of Antonio Machado call out to us today: “Walker, there is no road. The road is made by walking.” And like the two disciples making their way on the seven mile road from Jerusalem to Emmaus, they felt lost, bereft, on a road but no road, discussing “all that had happened.” And then Jesus walks the road, interprets the Scriptures and their lives. Every day the Risen One, Jesus the Christ, bids us to walk the road of discipleship with Cleopas, with all those who have gone before us, with our companions in faith. We carry in our hearts all the experiences of our lives, all the feelings, all the choices. We go forward with the grace of the Spirit of Jesus, making the road, day after day. | |
