Feast of St. Catherine of Siena Acts 16:22-34

Paul, accompanied by Silas, has set out on his second missionary journey finally arriving in Philippi. Their preaching is met with hostility. They are beaten, flogged, imprisoned, and then miraculously set free. Not taking advantage of their freedom, they are able to save the life of their jailer and bring him and his family into the community of believers. With that same missionary zeal, Catherine of Siena became peace-maker, reconciler, letter writer and reformer in a time of political intrigue and threat of schism in the Church. For the Church which she reverenced as the Body of Christ, she spoke the truth with love. Summoned by Urban VI, she met with him and the cardinals urging and encouraging reform. No small challenge for a woman of the 14th century or a woman in any century. In whatever way we are called, let us be faithful | |
