| Trafficking in women and children is a major
crime of today - its dimensions are unbelievable. It is extremely difficult
to give exact figures, as only a small percentage of cases is revealed
and reported. Estimates by the Council of Europe assume that in Europe
alone 500,000 people become victims of human trafficking each year. - -
- The victims are mostly young women between 18 and 25. They are sold and
are forced to work in brothels all across Europe. This crime is repeated around the world. It is not easy to trace victims since this all goes on behind closed doors and does not affect most people directly. (excerpts from Anti-Human Trafficking Newsletter) |
