The first reading sets forth the challenge, the invitation, for the beginning of our Lenten journey. “I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live.” Each day we are faced with a multitude of choices. Some are easy: Multigrain Cheerios or Raisin Bran for breakfast? Some are far more challenging: Do what is easy, or do what is right? Most of us do not make life and death choices on a daily basis, but we are always faced with the opportunity to move closer or further from God. God loves us so much that we are given that choice through the tremendous gift of free will. This Lent, may we always choose to move closer to God, to the eternal life that is lovingly offered to us. Loving God, help us to respond to your invitation to choose life today. Help us love you, heed your voice, and hold fast to you every day of our lives. |
