Friday after Ash Wednesday Isaiah 58:1-9 |

Today we hear the Lord encouraging us to speak up; to preach the truth; to act! We, like Isaiah, may be saying,” I am doing something…don’t you see?” Is God asking us how much of our own interests are tied up in what we choose to do or not do during Lent. Are we concentrating on things that affect our own spirituality and perhaps make us feel better? Or are we doing acts which will make someone else feel better? It is hard to lift up our voices like trumpet blasts. It’s hard to speak out against injustice. Yet, the Lord says, “This is the fasting that I wish”. Lord, protect us from carrying out our own pursuits. Guide our prayer and actions this Lent. Give us the courage to follow you. |
