“And He saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at his tax office and said to him, follow me.”

Why would Jesus call such an unpopular person? He shocked the Pharisees and some of his followers as well. But His answer is clear. I have not come to call the righteous, but the sinners. How wonderful! It means He is calling us also – - for none of us is
perfect. And it means we too must call others to follow Him by the way we live everyday. We can seek out the sick, the unbelieving, the lonely, the discouraged and the forgotten in our midst. They are all around us if we choose to look. They are the people Jesus came to save.

During this holy season of Lent, let us remember Jesus’ invitation to follow Him, may our hands, our feet, our voices bring the message of His love to those who are most in need.
