It is only the second week of Lent. We have just begun our Lenten journey, which we hope brings us to deeper intimacy with God. Today’s readings bolster this hope by reminding us of both Abraham’s and Jesus’ intimate relationship with our God.

Abram hears God and obeys God’s voice. Abram is given no clear direction to the new land, but the spectacular promise: “I will show you.” Jesus leads the three disciples “up a high mountain by themselves.” There God shows them Jesus’ glory.

These passages highlight the importance of time to just be with God, to listen to God’s voice, to receive God’s direction. God is faithful and can be relied upon to fulfill the ancient promise: “I will show you.”
