Second Tuesday of Lent Isaiah 1: 10, 16 – 20 |

In Matthew’s gospel, Jesus warns us about hypocrisy. We all have experienced this and often see it in our political leaders. . Often those who do not practice what they preach are trying to get power over others. Power can help a person to feel strong and to have a false sense of self esteem. At times we may feel small, frightened or insignificant and desire to pretend or act as if we were something more. So we must not only be watchful for those who are being false we must also continue to strive not to be false ourselves. Lent is a time of self reflection. We might take time to ask ourselves if we don’t at times compare ourselves to the obvious hypocrites and think we are “better”. |
