Jesus asked, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” The disciples answered, “John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” Again, Jesus questioned, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter’s response, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God,” was inspired by his heavenly Father.

Today you and I are asked that same question. My reflections brought forth the various images that had special meaning in the past: the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Bread of Life, and Truth. Today the image of Jesus as my Partner in the dance of life is meaningful.I always enjoyed the freedom and joy of dancing. At times the music speeds up or slows down and one must be ready to follow a
different dance step. The dance floor can get crowded and one must be ready to follow the movement out of a tight spot. The daily dance of life is never exactly the same. Spontaneity, discipline and fidelity to routines are all part of the dance. We are called to enjoy the present moment and then be open and ready to move on to something new.

Peter’s faith was the condition for his call to serve Christ’s community. Our faith enables us to be with God learning to follow the steps of the dance that leads to truth and wholeness. Then we, too, can serve the needs of others.
