Holy Thursday Exodus 12: 1 – 8,11 – 14 |

How many of us can identify with Peter’s reluctance to have Jesus wash his feet? Isn’t it a natural tendency to want to be independent? But, in the Gospel for Holy Thursday, we’re reminded of Jesus’ words, “Unless I wash you, you will have no inheritance with me.” We need to let Jesus minister to us; we need to let other people minister to us. Only if we have been ministered to, are we able to minister to others. The priesthood that we celebrate on Holy Thursday is a ministry of service. It is a cyclical process of receiving and giving like breathing in and breathing out. Although we may not be ordained priests, we are priestly people to the degree that we share in the ministry of service that Jesus modeled for us at the Last Supper. |
