No one is hurting me now.
The bad people are gone.
This is just a memory.
I am an adult now. Today I can protect myself.
I can reach out for help.

Inner Safety

Visualization can be very powerful and healing. Think of a safe place. It can be real or imagined. In this place, you are loved and protected. Here there is no abuse. There is no fear; no guilt; no sham; just comfort and safety.

Picture-and name-all the safe things you have in this place.

You may stay in this safe place as long as you wish or need to do so. Since the place is in YOUR HEAD, you may be there and still go about business as usual. Sometimes, though, you may need to just be “there.”

Sometimes, the safest thing to do is call a friend-or a therapist.

Hold a light, hold it gently. Let it become hope for the journey.
