"Hear the Word and Accept It”

“Those sown on rich soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.” Mark 4:20

Contemplating (the Word) and giving to others the fruits of his contemplation describes the life of the Dominican philosopher, theologian, and preacher, Thomas Aquinas. His love of study and of Sacred Scripture and his appreciation of creation makes this 13th century man a contemporary person for us, one who sought truth in the questions of his age as we strive to do today.

Through his preaching, teaching, and writing, Thomas Aquinas bore much fruit, but his life of humility and poverty is an even greater legacy.

At the end of his life Thomas wrote: “I can write no more. Such things have been revealed to me that what I have written seems but straw.”

As we ponder the Word in our personal prayer, we too can preach and share that Word in our interactions with those we meet each day. Like Thomas, may we deepen our love relationship with God and with one another.
